It’s normal (pun?) for a bioassay to have a geometric standard deviation of 2-3 fold. This informs my earlier comment saying that an IC50 of 10 nM and 30 nM aren’t really different from one another and shouldn't be used for decision-making. 19/ x.com/KRHornberger/s…

Starting your car after a LONG break there is always an anxious moment when you’re unsure if it’s going to start up again. Science can feel the same way. But, like your car, all you may need is a jumpstart eg. a nice science chat or reading a great paper. What’s your jumpstart?

Last week I was fortunate to speak with students at KIPP-SFCP with the Bay Area Youth Sciences (BAYS) program UC San Francisco. Had a great time discussing immunity during respiratory illness. They were so inquensitive and eager to learn. Highlight of my week! #STEMeducation

I'm creating 3D tours of open single cell RNA-seq data in UMAP space. Here, using data from 50k brain cells by the Allen Institute . (portal.brain-map.org/atlases-and-da…). The UMAP position and class of every cell is read into Blender, realized as a stylized, class-specific model I sculpted

Top 4 things to know about doing science: 1. You need to have someone you can talk to 2. One-on-one discussions are the best 3. Think about discussions as improvisations and use the ‘yes, and’ rule 4. Create a safe space so both of you feel open to saying seemingly silly things
