I added RubyLLM to my Rails app this morning. 10 hours later, I've built my first chatbot, which is leveraging tools to answer domain specific questions about my application and data. Mind blowing opportunities here! github.com/crmne/ruby_llm #RubyOnRails #buildinpublic

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years, you will have noticed the "early internet" levels of hype around AI. How to use AI sustainably in software engineering is the subject of my latest blog post. world.hey.com/charlietarr/ho… #AI #RubyOnRails #buildinpublic

From a generalised perspective, I have understood for some time, how valuable LLM's can be. But how they can add value in a more localised and domain-specific context? This is the subject of my latest blog post: world.hey.com/charlietarr/us… #AI #RubyOnRails #buildinpublic

Nothing beats real-world unvarnished feedback from frustrated and unhappy customers. Receiving this and then doing something meaningful about it, in a reasonable timeframe, is the whole ball game. #buildinpublic

One of the most important aspects of integrating AI agents into a Rails codebase, is the design of effective guardrails, which allow for suitably deterministic outcomes, whilst working with inherently unpredictable agentic responses. Agreed? 🤔

Charlie Tarr (@charlietarr1) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Instinctively, I don't think the advent or rapid development of AI will impact the fundamentals of designing, building and maintaining great software. If anything, I think that great design will become far more important and valuable. Thoughts? 🤔

Upgrading my development environment today. Configuring Linear, integrating with cloud agents on Cursor and feeding relevant notifications to Slack. My goal is to simulate a team of junior developers configured as AI agents, whilst focussing on project briefs and PR reviews.

Linear + Cursor cloud agents with narrow and clearly defined prompts is a game changer. Delegating 80% of the work to a team of autonomous AI agents and focussing on reviews has unlocked significant productivity gains for me. Now I feel that I have my own team of engineers.

In this brave new world of writing feature briefs and delegating them to autonomous AI agents, I'm having to completely re-imagine my concept of how long things will take.

AI agents are great, but there is no shortcut when it comes to great design. In fact, in the age of AI, great design is more important than ever. This is particularly true when working on brand new features, for which established patterns are yet to have been established.
