Much of this thread resonates with me. Beyond social purposes, is the intellectual value of conferences worth the time, effort, and money? Especially when presenting to 20 people in a ballroom? Some great points here ⬇️

So the emails you meant to write remain unsent So your report that is due is not finished So the dishes remain piled high in your overflowing sink So your to do list remains mostly undone You have survived another week of the plague And though that is not enough it is enough

This is a small indication that the system is broken. When I was in graduate school (15 yrs ago) no one I knew ever worked through break. I feel bummed for graduate students now. Take care of yourselves. I know it’s hard.

Something I try to remember everyday. In the day-to-day hustle of survey research in #aapor world, this message of grace can sometimes be easy to forget. Let’s give each other - coworker, boss, client, supplier - love and peace this year.

We can’t resign ourselves to fatalism. “People won’t wear masks.” “They won’t get vaccinated.” “There’s no political will.” We must keep using our voices holding our electeds accountable. We have not nearly tried everything in the toolbox yet. We can’t give up.

What a pleasure to conduct a lit review for a project! It’s been a few years. Funded opportunities to read and think are few and far between, love them!

Please never, ever, ever say "our study is the first to do X." Likely, you are wrong, especially given lags in publication. Also, what's the value in being first? Better to be right, thorough, and careful.

Any alternatives to Smart Art in Word? I want to go beyond bullets, text boxes, etc. But Smart Art in Word isn't doing for me. Any suggestions?
