Really excellent appointment. Few people know as much about what needs to be done to deliver Net Zero as Chris Stark or as respected and effective.

Hoping I was just a mere 28 years ahead of my time in asking the Prime Minister to agree that “football’s coming home”. Good luck England. Matt Chorley

Very much ready to push forward with revised ‘Swansea project’ Tidal lagoon which could see a £6.25bn integrated energy investment in tidal and other renewables in Swansea Bay🌊

Charles Hendry (@charles_hendry) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Good to see Torsten Bell champion this and delighted to see new Govt moving forward quickly with tidal range. In my review, I highlighted the immense opportunities in Swansea but with 7 years of inaction since then, we now need to move forward with a range of lagoons to catch up.

If the Conservative Govt had accepted my report’s conclusions in 2017, that Swansea tidal lagoon was a ‘no regrets’ option, it would be operational now. Clean, predictable power, where the UK would be a world leader. And one of the greatest visitor attractions in Wales.

Ah yes, let’s go for the invisible electricity strategy. Unfortunately, without energy infrastructure, Reform don’t seem to have noticed the lights will go out. Reform - keeping Britain in the dark.

A night in Bordeaux with a best friend. Kevin Bell died suddenly yesterday. A giant of public affairs and an amazing kind and fun man. So grateful for all our time together. We will never forget him

Dreadful news. As well as being a founder father of the UK’s public affairs industry, Kevin was a wonderful life enhancer. He spread laughter and happiness wherever he went. The world is a sadder, less vibrant place without him.

Today's report demonstrates this isn’t about security. It’s about control. A centralised digital ID would hand the state unprecedented power over your everyday life. We’re told it’ll stop illegal immigration. It won’t. The real cost? Your freedom, your privacy, your data.

Charles Hendry (@charles_hendry) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Exactly this from Sam Hall Companies have earmarked hundreds of billions to invest in UK energy infrastructure, in renewables, grid, CCUS and emerging technologies. What does this policy mean for them? Are they still welcome? It needs urgent clarification

Charles Hendry (@charles_hendry) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Again Gavin Barwell absolutely right. Brazil’s electricity 90% clean. Kenya 90% clean. Solar in Africa growing 60% pa. Solar overall doubling every three-four years. Even oil rich countries in Gulf now investing massively in clean power.

Charles Hendry (@charles_hendry) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Also because energy companies were encouraged to sweat old assets rather than replace, until Ofgem’s primary duty changed in 2010. We had oldest, dirtiest coal plant in developed world and some of oldest nuclear plants. Outdated plant had to be replaced and that’s been expensive

Charles Hendry (@charles_hendry) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Exactly right Iain Dale 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧⚒️ Conservatives can’t get close to being in Government without winning seats back from Lib Dems. Not sure how the announcements so far will help with that.

Charles Hendry (@charles_hendry) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I find it vaguely amusing that because I question some policies I’m told I’m not a real Conservative, having been a Party Member for 50 years and supported/campaigned for every leader since then, even when the Party was unpopular. Often by people who weren’t born when I joined!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – the only way Scotland could become an independent nation is if it learns from the likes of Ireland and Singapore. We need to attract wealth creators and get the tax TAKE up, not the tax RATE up.

Alan will be a great addition to the DESNZ team. He understands the energy sector incredibly well. He has engaged thoughtfully and constructively across the sector for years - and he is a very decent human being. A very good appointment.
