Musical sentences for #fluency practice! Each day during Morning Meeting I write a new sentence using as many of our “sight words” as possible. I keep those sentences to use for games and activities in our phonics skill groups. #kindergarten #phonics Orton-Gillingham

Tyler Anderson Very good point! And the reading wars don’t help—many have rejected the thought of core instruction for tier one being the same knowledge exposure for all students. I truly believe there is a massive equity issue with not having rich core knowledge they ALL kids have access to AT

Students at SPES took a deeper look at social studies than other elementary school students have before. Their classes used resources from Reframing the Narrative, a social studies curriculum that invites students to explore all sides of history. youtu.be/t0gHcPw3mrM

A new study confirms that reading comprehension strategies work best if combined with background knowledge. And: the effect of 55 hours of instruction is the same as 1 hour. Kids get WAY more than 55 hrs in school. Daniel Willingham More in my Forbes post: forbes.com/sites/nataliew…

Yes, we want to ditch leveled reading groups, but we generally want to replace them with whole-class work with texts… And save small groups for kids that need special support. A blog full of explanation: eduvaites.org/2019/11/02/lev…

Hey Dictionary.com My third grade students want to know how you decide to list homophones and their defintions in the dictionary. So if you have bow for a violin and bow for bending over, how do you decide which one comes first? Third graders are pondering.
