Stranger: “What do you like to be called, handicapable or differently abled?” Me: “I’m disabled.” Stranger: “I can’t say that. You’re not disabled. It’s too negative.” Euphemisms are “negative.” Stop the euphemisms. Listen to disabled people.

Disability encompasses a myriad of conditions and nothing isn't valid. We shouldn't limit what does and doesn't count as disabled. By using the words disabled and disability we destigmatise them and make them neutral terms instead of giving them certain connotations.

By saying disabled and disability we let people know its okay to use them and take away the negative connotations. By allowing everyone who disabled by their conditions and ableism to identify as disabled we welcome them into our community and make the community stronger

The answer to stairs is not a stair-climbing wheelchair. It is a ramp or a lift. Stop blaming wheelchairs and disabled people for inaccessibility. Blame the barriers and the people who do nothing to eliminate them.
