Anti-Poverty Week exec. director Toni Wren estimates that removing the $550 coronavirus supplement will increase child poverty from 780,000 to over a million. The supplement has reduced child poverty. It makes economic and moral sense to retain it.

Jacinda Ardern Wants to Make New Zealand the 'Best Place in the World to Be a Child'. She states: "If you ask me why I’m in politics, my answer will be simple: children." It would be great to hear our political leaders say and also believe the same thing.

"Jacinda Ardern: I genuinely believe our success as politicians should be based on the status of children." We have over three quarters of a million children living in poverty in Australia and without political will to reduce it, it's likely to get worse.

It's time that Australia stopped making children as young as ten criminally responsible. It's out of step with other developed countries and with the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child's call to raise the age to 14. abc.net.au/news/2020-07-2…

Amnesty Int. is calling on Australians to sign a petition to end the unsafe transportation of children in the back of NT police vans. Children are exceptionally vulnerable. They need to be treated with far greater care and respect. action.amnesty.org.au/act-now/call-f…

At recent mtg a NT State rep said the increase in #JobSeeker had helped to reduce child maltreatment. It's not surprising that reducing poverty increases child wellbeing, reduces mistreatment and children in State care. Reducing JobSeeker is counterproductive.

In 2004 Warren Buffet wrote “Only when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked.” COVID19 has starkly revealed the inadequacy of our aged care system damaged through years of market fundamentalism and seeing the aged as "non-productive burden".

Despite ongoing evidence of high levels of child poverty and its negative impact on many thousands of lives, there is little political will to address it. We need socially minded politicians to show leadership on this significant economic and moral issue. smh.com.au/politics/feder…

There's 130 people on our counselling waitlist, most of them seeking help with domestic violence, individual/family concerns, financial and gambling issues. It's impossible to keep up with this high demand given current resources. abc.net.au/news/2020-09-0…

Appropriately funded, well targeted social benefits are fundamental to reducing child poverty. Substantial cuts to JobSeeker during a national health and economic emergency will inevitably create greater poverty and pressure on Aus families. theguardian.com/australia-news…
