The Ministry of Justice consultation on outdoor weddings has opened. My new blog post explains what this will actually cover and why, although this is welcome, it underlines rather than solves the need for wider marriage law reform: sandbergrlaw.wordpress.com/2021/12/20/con…
Lewis Goodall The UK wedding industry is worth £14.7bn annually and supports 400,000 workers. Around 70% of bookings are taken at this time of year and currently, there’s no confidence with couples (and no insurance to protect everyone). We have no security of revenue right now.
While the new MoJ consultation on outdoor weddings is welcome, it will only affect weddings in approved premises and registered places of worship. Reform is still needed on unregistered religious marriages & to recognise humanist & independent celebrants: sandbergrlaw.wordpress.com/2021/12/20/con…

This afternoon Crispin Blunt will lead a debate on humanist marriages in Westminster Hall. The need to legally recognise humanist weddings is clear but legislating on this alone would not deal with a range of other problems with our outdated marriage laws: bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/religion-and-m…
New blog post on yesterday’s Westminster Hall debate on humanist marriage led by Crispin Blunt and to which Tom Pursglove responded for the Government. It looks at the arguments about when to provide for humanist marriage: sandbergrlaw.wordpress.com/2022/01/28/wes…
Our law on marriage is outdated and discriminatory. There is no reason why marriages conducted by humanist and independent celebrants should not be legally binding. I support the call by Association of Independent Celebrants (AOIC): independentcelebrants.com/wedding-law-re… (1/2)
Today’s new blog post: why the rise of the non-religious in the 2021 Census results bolster the need for reform of marriage laws and the laws concerning religion in schools. sandbergrlaw.wordpress.com/2022/11/29/the… #Census2021 #Census #Christian #NonReligious #Marriage #Wedding #Schools
