#MarriageReform How we marry is changing, and the law needs to keep up. In a guest post, Rajnaara C Akhtar, Rebecca Probert and Sharon Blake look at the reform of weddings law in England and Wales. lawandreligionuk.com/2021/12/04/how…

The Ministry of Justice consultation on outdoor weddings has opened. My new blog post explains what this will actually cover and why, although this is welcome, it underlines rather than solves the need for wider marriage law reform: sandbergrlaw.wordpress.com/2021/12/20/con…

Lewis Goodall The UK wedding industry is worth £14.7bn annually and supports 400,000 workers. Around 70% of bookings are taken at this time of year and currently, there’s no confidence with couples (and no insurance to protect everyone). We have no security of revenue right now.

While the new MoJ consultation on outdoor weddings is welcome, it will only affect weddings in approved premises and registered places of worship. Reform is still needed on unregistered religious marriages & to recognise humanist & independent celebrants: sandbergrlaw.wordpress.com/2021/12/20/con…

What About Weddings (@wawofficialuk) 's Twitter Profile Photo

One of the people who decided on the rules that meant thousands of couples couldn't get married and that hundreds of thousands of wedding suppliers couldn't earn a living partied during lockdown and thinks that an apology is enough. How utterly deluded these people are.

Tamryn Settle (@thecandidapple) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I am now even angrier about all the times that Ministers and Civil Servants equated weddings to parties during lockdown. How dare they put their grubby little get togethers on the same level as a milestone life event. How dare they deny 400,000 work whilst boozing in a basement.

This afternoon Crispin Blunt will lead a debate on humanist marriages in Westminster Hall. The need to legally recognise humanist weddings is clear but legislating on this alone would not deal with a range of other problems with our outdated marriage laws: bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/religion-and-m…

New blog post on yesterday’s Westminster Hall debate on humanist marriage led by Crispin Blunt and to which Tom Pursglove responded for the Government. It looks at the arguments about when to provide for humanist marriage: sandbergrlaw.wordpress.com/2022/01/28/wes…

As Independent Celebrants, we believe in equal rights for all couples who choose to get married. Please speak to your MP to tell them why you support wedding law reform AND the inclusion of Independent Celebrants 🙏 #ChangeWeddingLaw independentcelebrants.com/wedding-law-re…

Our law on marriage is outdated and discriminatory. There is no reason why marriages conducted by humanist and independent celebrants should not be legally binding. I support the call by Association of Independent Celebrants (AOIC): independentcelebrants.com/wedding-law-re… (1/2)

Six months since the Law Commission’s final report on wedding law (lawcom.gov.uk/project/weddin…) as we await the Government’s response, here’s my summary of what the report said: lawandreligionuk.com/2022/07/23/dej…

A senior bishop has criticised plans to reform wedding laws for greater freedom and fairness as 'undignified'. But what the Church may truly fear is competition, says our head of campaigns, Megan Manson. secularism.org.uk/opinion/2023/0…

We are quite frankly appalled by the Church’s non-inclusive attitude to marriage following its recent objections to the Law Commission proposals. Here we issue our response: independentcelebrants.com/church-of-engl… #journorequests #churchofengland #marriage #weddinglaw
