This Ezra Klein stat from today's NYT on renewables land use seems to pretty badly misrepresent the study it cites, and the below thread from Cecil Scheib adds much needed context. Notably, the land "directly impacted" by wind turbines is *much, much* smaller than what's printed.
Love this FDNY fire truck specifically designed for tight spaces. Spotted at Feast of The Feast Of San Gennaro NYC because Mulberry Street is packed w/vendors & people end to end. I would love to see these stationed around city. Mayor Eric Adams & New York City Council can we have more of these please?
Erik Bottcher is exactly right. We have a sanitation crisis and we need #Trash off the sidewalk and into #CleanCurbs. Kudos to New York University Union Square, NYC for making this happen. Let’s expand this all over the city Mayor Eric Adams!
If containerized trash doesn't make you do jazz hands, you're not doing it right. What a couple of snazzy guys I got to stand with today! Erik Bottcher @EdJanoff
New Yorkers are tired of living with mountains of trash on the sidewalk. Yesterday I joined New York University and Union Square, NYC to unveil a containerized waste pilot on 15th Street, funded through the NYC Sanitation Clean Curbs pilot that we fought for.
"NYU tackles ‘swell in rat population’ with new trash bins" nyunews.com/?p=241886 via Washington Square News - great reporting from @aabbyywilson and Arnav Binaykia. Thanks Union Square, NYC for your partnership with NYUGreen!

"When you roll the dice, you could roll snake eyes five times in a row. And that could happen for hurricanes too." —NYU's Cecil Scheib on the misleading term "100-year flood" and the likelihood of another #Sandy: thecity.nyc/2022/10/27/234…
On the tenth anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, NYU's chief sustainability officer Cecil Scheib breaks down the misleading term "100-year flood." Hint: it doesn't mean that a Sandy-like "superstorm" can only come every hundred years: thecity.nyc/2022/10/27/234… thecity.nyc/2022/10/27/234…
It's mind-blowing to me that we still don't really understand how _friction_ works. Glad to see that NYU Tandon students are figuring it out! Can't wait to learn the deets. azom.com/news.aspx?news…
