Veterans in Derby deserve our full support. I raised the work of Major Eales and the Derby & Derbyshire Ex-Services Association in Parliament to shine a light on their efforts. I’m proud that Operation VALOUR will deliver real support for those who’ve served.

When I was on the BBC I talked about the opening of our beautifully restored Market Hall which is opening on Saturday. Make sure you don’t miss out - give it a visit. It’s another step in the right direction for our city.

Lots of incredible organisations were at the first Derby SEND family event that took place at the Museum of Making today. Too many families are having to fight to get support but it was inspiring to meet people providing such a range of advice, help and positive experiences.

I joined students from Engineered Learning for Community Rail Week and we painted the underpass at Derby Station in preparation for an upcoming community art project celebrating 200 years of rail. They also got to meet rail workers and talk about what careers in rail are like.

After visiting local manufacturer Pentaxia I asked our Defence Secretary what he’s doing to help smaller firms get a fair crack at Government contracts. I’m proud of the highly skilled manufacturers in Derby working in our Defence industry and helping to keep our country safe.

At the reopening of Derby Market Hall, supporting the Derby SEND Families event, giving Derby Station underpass a fresh coat of paint with local young people, standing up for veterans and pushing for justice reform - A busy week in Derby and Westminster here’s my latest update👇

There’s real progress in Derby - from the stunning new Market Hall to the launch of the Vaillant Live Venue. With investment in community policing and safer streets, stronger local jobs and a growing economy, we’re moving forward with purpose. My latest for @DerbyshireLive ⤵️

I asked John Healey how we can better promote the role our city plays in UK defence incl. Rolls-Royce work on submarine reactors. The Strategic Defence Review will: ⚙️ Invest in Derby's industry 👷 Create jobs and opportunities 🏠 Deliver better housing for military families

Up to 15,000 pupils in Derby will get free school meals from Sept 2026. Every child in a household on Universal Credit will be eligible. These changes will boost learning outcomes & ease the pressure on parents’ budgets. The Labour Party is delivering real support for Derby families.

Inspiring to be at the Derby Voluntary Sector Awards. Huge congratulations to all nominees & winners - but especially to Tony Sandar on his Lifetime Achievement Award for 50 years with Derby TOC H Camp - an incredible legacy. Volunteers like Tony make our community what it is.

Buses are a lifeline for so many, keeping communities connected and tackling isolation. This week I met with local bus service operators to discuss improving services and I supported Labour’s Better Bus Bill: a £1bn plan to make services more reliable, better connected and safer.

I hope all the runners - over 1,000 of them - who completed the Derby Race for Life 5K in Markeaton Park now have their feet up! It was a joy to send them off at the start and welcome them back over the finish line. Thank you to all the Cancer Research UK volunteers who made it possible.
