I’m surprised and sad to hear this. We had very different channels but we both loved comics and Benny was nice to me every time I saw him. My sincere condolences to his family.

As the world gets crazier, there is one name you will hear more often: Nicolás Gómez Dávila He wrote 1 book. Published ONLY a 100 copies... But he's the best teacher on why societies need MYTHS to live Without myths, collapse is inevitable A thread👇🏻

After the French revolutionaries beheaded their king, they had another bright idea: "Let's make the day 10 hours long" This is NOT a joke. Left-wing "experts" actually changed the length of minutes, hours, and weeks in the name of science... This is the story of that disaster:

The 1989 Avengers reader poll! If you've been with me for a while you've seen this but it's always fascinating to me. She-Hulk being the third favorite solo Avenger book is really cool - this was the dawn of the Byrne run. how is Wonder Man top candidate for a solo though...?

Claremont’s work is famous for his cultivation of long, continuous storylines and one of the earliest strategies we can identify toward this is his practice of chaining together conflicts in direct succession in order to form a (moderately) continuous narrative. #xmen 1/11

In “George Pérez and the Classical Narrative Style” scholar Marc Singer breaks down the genius of Pérez’s style and seeks to account for the critical neglect that the legendary illustrator has received from comics scholars, despite a legendary career output. #TeenTitans 1/7

🧵Having personally worked several Presidential and Vice Presidential security details, here’s some of my thoughts based on the available info of the assassination attempt on Trump.

Because I can't know who all the Harlan Ellison fans are out there, I'm putting the word out to any A-list comic artist fans who'd like to contribute an illustration for a deluxe version of Harlan's GREATEST HITS. Not looking for pro bono, paying established rates. Ping me here.

It is interesting that no significant folk memory of Doggerland exists, but one does exist for the lost lands of the Scilly Isles. I would imagine this is probably because of how small and continuous the population of the isles was.

It’s cool that Old English had its own words even for grammatical terms. Instead of a Latin term like ‘conjunction’, you said betweoxaworpenness, literally ‘between-thrown-out-ness’.

In original creator Bill Everett's world, Namor's lost city was not Atlantis and the regular underwater dwellers all had the same ankle wings as Namor, as clearly shown in this gorgeous splash from Marvel Mystery #13 (1940)

To add to John's excellent thread about forgotten Batman supporting characters I figured I'd say a few words about the bizarre situation surrounding Kathy Kane following Crisis on Infinite Earths and how it touches on some editorial policies at the time.

At the time of Colossus’s 1975 debut, America was embroiled in “The Cold War” with the USSR, a war that was often fought through media propaganda. Though Piotr was built around familiar US symbols of Soviet people, Claremont developed him away from type. #xmen 1/8

The Cross-Time Caper is easily the most famous story arc from Claremont’s Excalibur, but it’s also a misnomer. Rather than ‘time’ (or even dimensions) the caper is actually built around a tour of famous fictional settings. 1/7 #xmen #excalibur The Oh Gosh, Oh Golly, Oh Wow! Podcast

Those who only know the Tin Woodman from the movies are likely unaware that in the original fourteen Oz books, his origin story is the most messed-up, horrifying thing you can imagine. And his ultimate fate is even worse.

In New Mutants #14, Claremont finally pairs Illyana with the X-Men’s junior team, establishing their relationship dynamic by juxtaposing Illyana’s dark interior reality (through her narration) with the outward adolescent group dynamics of her young teammates. #xmen #magik 1/11
