Thanks to your donations in July during our athlete visit, we have managed to purchase the following equipment to the value of over £1,000! This includes a giant Jenga set, swingball, bowling equipment, bean bags, tennis balls and a rounders set. Thank you for your generosity!

1EB have begun their T4W unit on The Enormous Turnip. The children created their own enormous turnips after learning about their smell, touch and appearance. They have also brought the farmer to life by writing speech bubbles about what he might be thinking in the story.

Year 1 are reading Paddington Bear and thoroughly enjoying it! They have created some wonderful illustrations for their reading display.

This week 4BCH/HW have been practicing our inference skills using the text Matilda. The children had the opportunity to ask ‘Miss Trunchball’ inferential questions. The children loved this hot seating activity and were very engaged in their learning.

In RE this week, Y2 have created freeze frames to help sequence the story of Guru Nanak.

Y2 have made dragons for our first T4W unit this year. We have made these in preparation for writing a warning story based on Kassim and the Greedy Dragon.

6JH completed freeze frames in Reading last week. They retrieved information from the text ‘A Kind Of Spark’ where they were asked to become characters and objects.

5JDC have had a great start to the term completing team building activities and investigations in Science.

The children in EYFS have had an amazing start to the beginning of their first year at Castle Wood Academy. Our gallery is already full of incredible creations! Take a look at our writing board; it is already full to the top of lists, maps and writing.

2CR have been learning about human and physical geography this week. We sorted pictures into what we thought were human geographical features and physical geographical features.

6JH have been freeze framing in our reading lessons this week. Today, we read the poem Binley House by Joseph Coelho and acted out what it would look like to live in a dilapidated tower block, using our retrieval and inference skills to assist with our acting.

This week, 3RH have been exploring the value of each digit in three digit numbers. We have had a blast working in groups using concrete resources to figure out what 10 or 100 more or less than a specific number is.

6LB have kicked off our Art unit by learning all about Pablo Picasso, our focus artist this term. Look at this beautiful fact file that has been created this week 🎨🧑‍🎨

Year 4 had a wonderful time at The Collection on Wednesday. They immersed themselves in Ancient Roman life, excavated a selection of artefacts (including conducted further research on these) and dressed up as Roman soldiers.

In Art this week, Year 5 have been learning how to draw in 3D by using the technique of perspective. We have also researched our focus artist, Andy Warhol, and analysed some of his work.

Year 4 have had a great time learning how Roman roads were built and replicating this using biscuits, sweets and custard. Who knew History could be so much fun....and delicious!

2SM have been busy this week designing and creating their cards for parents and carers. We love the colours and how much effort the class have taken to write their greetings with care using such beautiful presentation.

To celebrate harvest time, EYFS have been exploring the role of farmers and what harvest time means. We have discussed the importance of food banks to local communities and created our own spoon scarecrows.
