The power Imagined Things Bookshop (a fabulous independent bookshop in Harrogate!!) has over me is shown by the response I got from my partner after buying two new books: "Well done for showing restraint my love". However am I going to fit my capsule library into Ryanair luggage...!

Am I determined or foolish for picking up a classic that I got halfway through about two years ago... in attempt to finally finish it? Or will this Russian beast end up finishing me?

Twenty minutes into the #BCLT talk on Translating Multilingualism, and despite the 39 degrees C in Cambridge, I am having a blast! Thanks to all the speakers for such a stimulating talk (and to Emerging Translators Network for the link to it) #ETN

"Google is a great resource, but let's keep the human in humanities": my favourite audience comment so far in #BCLT2022 talk on Race and Responsibility in Translation. Massive thank you to @akosua_anobea and Kaiama L Glover 💥 for sparking such important thoughts expanding beyond this!

This is Hitoshi Igarashi, a Japanese scholar of Arabic and Persian literature. He was murdered in 1991 for translating Salman Rushdie's novel. Translators have lost their lives for books.

by page five of a translation you should have more tabs open than can fit in one screen, 50 of them dictionaries and thesauruses (of the same website likely), and searches like "how to hug a violin?" and "names of buttons on a radio"

Did I find a German copy of Twilight, Bis(s) zum Morgengrauen, for one Euro at a fleamarket, and bought it for the pun? Yes. Am I now powering through Dracula and Carmilla so I can read the true vampire literary canon? Maybe...

Exciting news just before festivities really take off: I'll be part of the Translation Studies at Bristol department come September '23! I can't wait to delve even deeper into translation and earn my Masters with the help of such fantastic academics 🥳
