“Schools do not exist to create income streams for private firms” BBC Panorama Sadly the way the academies system was set up, that’s exactly what can happen

Professor Mary Bousted (@marywbousted) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Shocking revelations about Bright Tribe in tonight’s Panorama. Shows what can happen when hundreds of millions of pounds of tax payers’ money is given to private companies to run schools and spent without adequate checks and balances.

If you missed Panorama last night - here is the must watch link. The Govt’s academies policy shown to be broken. In all too many cases leading to public money being siphoned away from educating our children into private companies. bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b…

We support the Head Teachers marching on downing street today. As a result of #schoolcuts last year there were: ✔️66,000 more pupils But ❌5,400 fewer teachers ❌2,800 fewer TAs ❌1,400 fewer support staff ❌1,200 fewer auxiliary staff #StillNotListening

Seems to me there is a huge opportunity here for The Labour Party, in setting out an alternative vision for schools which is less top-down, where control is not moved away from communities, and with greater checks+balances. schoolsweek.co.uk/local-governin… Angela Rayner Jeremy Corbyn

Key problem of the academies system: all legal power resides in the exclusive, private relationship between the DfE and the trust running schools. All on the outside, including parents and pupils, have few rights.

New from Stephen Tierney FRSA FCCT Ofsted’s New Framework and Why It Won’t Work wp.me/p3Gre8-1rS Good to see a counter-narrative to Amanda Spielman's speech; it's all part of the conversation that we desperately need

Many Secondary schools in deprived areas have good behaviour and good relationships with students. Many Teachers do this daily without the 'charismatic' Leader..

EU citizens living, working, contributing to UK communities didn't "jump the queue" & neither did UK nationals in Europe. They were exercising rights which provided freedom & opportunities. We will fight to ensure these continue in the future, especially after any transition.
