Do politicians simply reflect public opinion or do they shape it? Ask Farage and he will know the answer as he spreads false accounts re the police bussing in demonstrators. Politicians should calm not stoke tensions and the Govt’s ‘island of strangers’ stance hasn’t helped.

Today Declassified UK revealed that govt advisors told Yvette Cooper that proscribing Palestine Action would be “unprecedented” bc unlike the 81 others on the list PA mainly damaged property. It was unprecedented. It was also foreseeable. A thread on UK counter-terror history 🧵

Nigel Farage today opened his 'Lawless Britain' press conference saying he now rejects the Crime Survey of England & Wales - the only validated crime level measurement. The 35,000-households Crime Survey is fatal to anyone wanting to present a picture of immigrant-driven crime

The High Court has granted Palestine Action the right to judicial review, saying there’s an arguable case the ban interferes with freedom of speech and assembly. 215 people arrested so far for simply holding a placard supporting the organisation face up to 14 years in prison.

Two weeks ago the govt published a Civil Society Covenant which promised to protect the right to engage in peaceful protest and I hope they will look again at the negative impact of its decision to ban Palestine Action on freedom of speech. theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/j…

Today, I published what is probably my most important article in quite a long time. In this piece, I revealed how the Trump administration is covertly manipulating social media platforms & algorithms to boost the administration’s narrative and suppress opposing lines of thought.

What is happening to this country? Steve Laws has over 100k followers on X and thinks it’s ok to tell Sunak England is not his home. There are reports that some in the Tory party want to get rid of Badenoch because she is black and grew up in Nigeria. Sickening.

Good to finally hear a BBC fact check yesterday evening after airing Jenrick’s dubious and highly inflammatory claims all day. With 47% of Brits believing irregular is bigger than regular migration when it’s actually 4% the media should do more to make the real facts clear.

Point of detail. Under international refugee law it is NOT illegal to arrive in the UK on a small boat if the the purpose of the journey is to claim asylum.

"We are now fast approaching a time where mass deportation of not only those who are here illegally, but those who have failed to integrate, is also necessary." An influential conservative website calls for the mass expulsion of British citizens. conservativehome.com/2025/08/08/pie…

Why? Civil Society Covenant drawn up by @dcms with input right across civil society and from an advisory group incl Faith Action representing all faiths and many bodies representing charities, incl MCF for muslim charities, is just too Muslim for Telegraph telegraph.co.uk/politics/2025/…

Apparently the govt thinks regulation of nuclear is holding growth back and checks designed to protect against one in a million year catastrophes are excessive. Think Chernobyl, Fukushima. And on deregulation remember Grenfell thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…
