#MinCup24 R2M5: #Rhodochrosite vs. #Quartz Rhodochrosite began MinCup 24 as “Meat rock, meat rock.” Will voters once again sink their teeth into this appetizing rose-colored delight? Or will quartz’s myriad of varieties and colours win the day? VOTE: mineralcup.org/2024/vote/r2m5

Very worrying news from the Western Australian Wheatbelt, home to iconic Salmon Gums, Wandoo, and Macrocarpa. A story repeated across landscapes from WA to Tasmania following the unrelenting local drought and heatwave conditions last summer. amp.abc.net.au/article/104366…

Spent a few days using LIDAR data to locate some massive sugar pines in the Sierra Nevada, 6-9' diameters & 200'+ tall. There are still some beauties out there, but they're becoming ever more rare due to drought+blister rust+fire. More old-growth pines are dead than alive now.
