If you notice resistance to saying 'fat people' it might be worth reflecting on your (internalised) fatphobia which correlates fatness with ugliness, being unhealthy, greediness and disgust. Fatphobia is also seeped in racism, sexism and misogynoir. Fat people are beautiful.

If your therapist has books by people like Chinua Achebe and Rumi on their bookshelf rather than academic books on psychopathology, you’re probably moving in the right direction.

the outpouring love & support I’ve received has made me realize I’m more than my accomplishments and gymnastics which I never truly believed before. 🤍

in general, I feel like psych and social work training in the U.S. feel so unbelievably outdated disability justice and trauma-informed work still get treated like niche interests or add-ons when they should be integral to the foundation of the field

Hi, I’m just your friendly neighborhood psychologist continuing to ask why there isn’t a national licensure system, or at least better license mobility, for mental health professionals when the need for services is so high and access to care is so low?

Political decisions directly influence mental health. So as a mental health professional, I simply cannot, and will not, be quiet or apolitical.

(Maybe. Just maybe. Therapists operating under the assumption that people who seek therapy do so because of an individualist problem located inside their personality structure are, in fact, subjecting their “patients” to a political ideology)

Something similar often happens to Black therapists when White therapists argue with one another about their theoretical orientations and what constitutes and does not constitute “real” therapy.

Watching Luke Combs sing beside Tracy Chapman with such obvious reverence makes the difference between appropriation and appreciation crystal clear. When someone engages source material in a spirit of love, it shows. Count all the ways he centers her, not himself 👇🏾
