So much for the popular (but technically inaccurate) metaphor of the Amazon as the "lungs of the world". Here's Brazil's air quality yesterday, in terms of Inhalable Particulate Matter (darker colours=worse) thanks to smoke from forest fires deflected off the Andes into SE Brazil
