Lately we've been discussing with our friends at @oceans_research to develop a device with a pH sensor for oceanographic research. Many thanks to Yannis Papastamatiou for valuable suggestions during carlo catoni's Intl Bio-Logging Soc webinar talk, such a great networking event! (1/2)
Do you want to learn details of the underwater behavior of breeding guanay cormorants? Don´t miss #WSTC6 #DigSesh2. Technosmart Europe small videocameras recording continuously for 5-6 h allowed us to learn how these cormorants hunt for their prey and interact with other predators.
1/4 #WSTC6 #DigSesh2 We used small #videocams and #GPS Technosmart Europe in guanay #cormorants to measure the intensity of the interactions between the #anchovy commercial #fishery and #seabirds (Aves Centinelas Proj. Prog. Nac. de Innovación en Pesca y Acuicultura). We share an extract of their underwater #behavior.

Bats are fast, right? But they also fly incredibly high too! Today in Current Biology we show how European free-tailed bats fly up to 1600 m above the ground & hit top speeds of 135 kph!
We used Technosmart Europe GPS tags to track European free-tailed bats in Eastern Portugal. Why these bats? They are the bigger cousins (so can wear GPS tags) of Mexican free-tailed bats that hit speeds of 158 kph & heights of 3000 m.
To the rescue! Our neighbours had a #BlueRockThrush nest in their building and one of the newly fledged chicks was stuck inside. We managed to catch it and free it (under the scrutiny of its alarmed father and of Marco Cianchetti Benedetti)
