This is a straight ahead tax on the poor, people who are stuck with cheap old cars. It's not about ICE car enthusiasts, although we are making all the noise.

I like this hypothesis. Teslas felt very next-generation in 2015. Less so now Porsche Toyota BMW etc have products which look and feel Teslaesque. The cult of Elon + the Apple design ethos, so different from other cars, has created the effect.
