It was the immortal song "Lag ja gale ke phir ye haseen raat ho na ho..." that I distinctly remember made me fall in love with the most beautiful voice in the world! It was a Black & White movie with the delicately beautiful Sadhana singing this lovely song.

But more than the demure beauty of Sadhana, it was the sweetness of the voice that had mesmerised me, a young 7-8 year old boy! I was truly in love with her voice, so much so that I wanted to marry Lata Mangeshkar!

She was my first crush in life! And boy, was this one-sided love affair ever going to end? I continued to be infatuated by her songs for as long as she was singing.

Who would not fall in love with that soulful voice! Sadhana, Madhubala, Sharmila Tagore, Suchitra Sen, Madhuri, Sridevi...came and went. But the voice she gave these actresses will remain evergreen, in turn making these celluloid heroines immortal too!

I loved Lata ji for the rest of my life, and even at the ripe old age of 65, whenever I listen to 'Lag ja gale', I am transported to the early 60's where a young lad for the first time in his life found he was in love!

Can Anna ask all to wear/display a flag/sticker. Movement will catch on soon. Better than "jail bharo". Will send the message too.

Had a fascinating experience yesterday. We were driving to GGN during Friday peak hours, when we took a U-turn, under a flyover. Unfortunately, the cops caught us as, apparently, this U-turn was not permitted.

However, during many previous occasions, I had noticed vehicles make this turn.) There were at least 5 more cars that had been similarly stopped. So, I was asked to pay 1000/- fine. A traffic constable checked my driving licence, etc, and casually asked me what I did.

I told him that I was a retired Fauzi. "*एक बोतल तो बनती है*" was his immediate response. Sensing that there was scope for negotiations, I told him that I was used to 300/- a bottle, not 1000/-. The conversation proceeded something like this :

"*वो तो canteen का रेट है*..." "_तो आप बताओ कितना दू_" "*जो आप ठीक समझें*..." So I put one 500 note back in my purse. He also sensed the opportunity and started casual conversation. "*बच्चे क्या करते हैं* " "_एक लड़का है, बाहर_" "*तो वो तो अब वापस नहीं आएगा*.....

*Sir, इससे तो अच्छा हमारे गाँव मे है, कम से कम अपने बच्चे तो होते हैं बुढ़ापे मे देख-भाल करने को। इस देश की यही तो अच्छी बात है कि छोटे अपने बुजुर्गों की देख-भाल तो करते हैं*...."

I wanted to tell him that it was because of people like him that we had decided to send our only child abroad, but that would have been futile.... 😔😒😔
