#HB2665 is introduced by Pamela Carter AZ LD4 — she cries and is difficult to understand as she tries to explain the need for this bill which would classify online encouragement of suicide to manslaughter. We think this will pass easily.
#HB2168 was described by @lupediaz4az and he cited cases where the AG is bringing suit—and it sounds as if he and Senator Mark Finchem believe that the companies are always right and should be free to pursue their profits. @johnkavanagh_az says that there’s no need sue the companies.
Angry statements and raised voices in Senate Judiciary — Wendy Rogers gets control of the discussion and they move on to voting. #hb2168
Senate Judiciary: #HCR2001 is being challenged by Senators Kuby and Ortiz. Wendy Rogers pushed to speed them up — Sen. Analise Ortiz (@senanaliseortiz.bsky.social) protests: “this is very important and it’s our last chance to debate!”
Our favorite Jen Marson is speaking — for county governments. She said the counties are “lighting their hair on fire over the tabulation piece.” They just found out about it yesterday and think it would be impossible to comply. They like the “early ballots by Friday” portion.
The counties don’t like #HCR2001 but would prefer it be fine tuned and specific before it hits the ballot. If it were to pass there would be no way for counties to be ready in time for 2027 elections. Per Jen Marson.
Once again, #HB2460 asserts #azleg preemption over local control, this time over ability to charge fee for return of runaway grocery carts. Sen. Lauren Kuby votes no. Bill passes, with Chair Hoffman telling cities to deal with “homeless” issue. Real motive for bill?
Thank you, Sarah Liguori for #HB2641, prohibiting #PFAS foam for fighting fires. Important for health of our firefighters and our communities. Passes with unanimous committee support!
#HCR2016 would prevent cities and counties from raising water rates for 4 years. Considering the need for possible infrastructure improvements due to lack of Colorado water, Sen Sen. Lauren Kuby votes no. In response Jake Hoffman votes yes with a long explanation. The CR passes.
