UPDATE: Here's the latest "Where the Parties stand" info graphic. We'll be updating our information as we go. It's not too late for all parties in #ONelxn to do better for #ONpoli workers. In the meantime, here's our #Justice4Workers Election Tool Kit: justice4workers.org/election_tools

JUST IN: The City of Toronto is actually planning to spend $$$ to hire private security guards to patrol parks 24/7 so that unhoused people, who have nowhere else to go, don't use them. The surveillance & criminalization of people experiencing poverty continues. So. Cruel.

I spoke to Farrah Merali CBC Toronto re: the attempt by City of Toronto 🇨🇦 to obfuscate two $0.5 million sole-sourced contracts for private security to surveil #encampments. Again: how do we have millions to harm unhoused people, but no money to maintain a livable city for everyone?

the average wait for social housing in Toronto is over 8 years long. the average wait in the emergency department is over 20 hours for a hospital bed. the wait to access mental health counselling is at a record high. these are the waits that need collective focus/action now.

Warning people about extreme heat is not an intervention when you have not ensured AC in schools, LTC, for disabled folks etc. Warnings are not enough.

I’m thinking this year for domestic violence awareness month, organizations should select 31 real stories from real survivors and feature a new one every single day throughout the month. Would help public see real examples and better realize the MANY difficult things victims face

As we watch the collapse of ON's health care system, there's an urgent understanding that health care shouldn't be considered a commodity — it is vital. But so is housing; so why are we unable to apply the same mindset to housing that we do to health care? Housing IS health care.

This is beyond concerning: monkeypox is now in City of Toronto 🇨🇦's shelter system. Shelter-hotels cannot be closed: people must have space to self-isolate, and we must gear up recovery sites immediately. cbc.ca/news/canada/to…

Hello I have tried calling several times and I have yet to get through. I keep getting placed on hold. Today I got through someone who hung up on me. She asked for my email and then hung up. I refuse to pay the $169 fee Toronto Star

In Ford's Ontario his MPPs get over $16000 a year increases but nurses get 1%. Educators get threatened but hundreds of Billions go on highways that will enrich his friends. Fiscally wrong, Ethically wrong. Just plain wrong

Avg. rent in the city is 2500/month, which is 30K/year. Avg. CUPE Ed worker salary is 39K/year. Remember who to be mad at if schools are closed due to a strike: blame falls squarely on the man denying early childhood educators and custodians the right to basic decent living.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. The reason: The country applies the Housing First concept. Those affected by homelessness receive a small apartment and counselling – without any preconditions. And: All this is cheaper than accepting homelessness.”

Never forget that the City of Toronto had more than enough resources to add an extra $50,000,000 to the police budget...but today...said it doesn't have enough resources to protect our community's most vulnerable. Never forget.

Welcome to Ontario, where the government is helping police by making their tuition free…but is not helping to address the root causes of crime including a lack of housing, healthcare, food, harm reduction services and mental health supports. Isn’t this just cruel?
