The winner of the 2022 #CundillHistoryPrize is… @TiyaMilesTAM for ‘All That She Carried: The Journey of Ashley's Sack, a Black Family Keepsake’ A singular history of slavery that has ‘the narrative propulsion of a novel,’ it's 'exceptional,' 'a beacon for finding our way'.

#AHA23 recap: Admittedly, I find conferences intimidating, whether or not I’m presenting. This year was wonderfully different. Partially because I’m done with the PhD & not on the market. But also, so many wonderful panels, workshops & receptions. Not to mention BOOKS FOR DAYS 🤤

As a grad student, this was bewildering. Then, on the market, I found that the diversity statement was the only part of apps accompanied by an explanation of what the committee was looking for…the whole thing seemed (is) very performance-driven.

UPDATE: Brian Covey, a full-time substitute teacher in Duval County, Florida, was FIRED for posting a video of empty bookshelves. This is the REAL STORY about why those shelves were empty and why Covey was let go

Today as I was perusing the 1860 ag census, I saw a table counting “milch cows.” Never in my natural life would I have known that milk was ever spelled that way. My heart goes out to every researcher who’s ever come up empty handed because of historical spelling gaps! 😂

A less fun find today was that in 1860, the county in which I, as well as both parents, was born and raised had the 3rd highest number of enslaved people compared to other Arkansas counties. The most devastating part of it all is how UN-shocking it was to come across that info.

If you’re fine with your children undergoing active shooter drills every year but lose your shit over them potentially seeing the pride section at Target, you make no sense and are staggeringly unfit for parenthood.

Thinking today of all the Texas prisoners whose cells will be over 100 degrees this week. We know from past heat waves that many won't make it out alive. The state legislature just had another chance to pay for A/C, and again decided not to. themarshallproject.org/2017/10/11/coo…

I grew up on American Girl stories. Little House on the Prairie. Anne of Green Gables. Naturally, I behave as though I’ve come down with consumption whenever I have a mild cough.

Hate to take this public, but this is disgusting. I received this book as an early Christmas gift sent via Amazon and was flipping through the pages just to find this:

Update: Contacted Amazon Help and their solution was to refund the book, which again, was a gift in the first place. That’s all. No apology, no accountability at all.
