The shores are littered with trash and scraps nobody found useful. It washes up, then gets pulled back out to sea. There’s something calming in that, she thinks. The normalcy of something she cherished before she became a leader and figured out there’s not much time to love.

“He said it was urgent, and he asked for you specifically.” Myra rolls her eyes, leaning her head back against the wall. Of course he did. He always does. Midday screaming protests, midnight whispered arguments. It didn’t matter to Knox at all.
