The informal poll results are in, & as I feared, most people are running ANOVAs in #R with functions that can give highly misleading (or flat out wrong) results. Follow along to see why using anova() and aov() is usually inadvisable & why you should be using car::Anova() 🧵

Turtle work can be a messy job, but worth it if you are surrounded by other dedicated researchers! #Turtles #FieldWork #Conservation #HERpetology #WildlifeConservation #Research

How do you hold a large alligator snapping turtle? I'd say VERY carefully. Recently hatchery staff released their last batch of alligator snapping turtles for the year as part of a restoration project. Since their head start program began they've released a total of 494. 📷USFWS

During breeding season in GA & FL, ARC Field Biologists & our partners comb temporary wetlands looking for the eggs of frosted flatwoods salamanders so we can give them a head start. Learn more in our #NewBlogPost: ARCProtects.org/headstarting 📷: N. Dahrouge, handled under permit

This is still one of my favorite #dataviz of all time. It shows how sensitive results are in small samples. It provides raincloud plots with N=20 (on the left) & N=500 (right). There is no difference between the two conditions other than the N.

Herp Review Vol 55 Number 1, is out now! The cover features an Ensatina eschscholtzii, a plethodontid found in coastal California in the U.S. This species possess highly active granular glands in their tails that produce a milky white noxious secretion. Photo by Ryan Singer

In some areas, you can see how the snow transforms the prairie. Unfortunately, Nachusa does not have the snow blanket just yet. ❄️ tuesdaysinthetallgrass.wordpress.com/2025/01/14/a-s… via Cindy Crosby
