Hey everyone next week is #HATM’s sixth birthday. I haven’t decided on what we are watching yet so if you have suggestions, we’d love to hear them. Anything currently available on Netflix Prime Video or Disney+ is game!

This is what historians do. We go to the primary sources (archival collections as well as contemporary publications) to gather our data. We sort through all the information to begin to understand the data and the evidence it is providing. We arrange the information to piece

Educate yourself. Recognize first the possible explanations, and seek out evidence. What you will overwhelmingly find is likely that multiple explanations are reasonable - and now the hard part starts. What is knowable? What is likely? And what does history tell us?

Anybody who thinks political parties are democratic institutions you need to do some history and STHU - they aren’t in the constitution. They are private organizations which have evolved with election law as guard rails. They are systems with hierarchy and distributions of power

Get your mind right - we operate in a system in which democratic ideals operate and are varied in power - to talk and discuss as if they are the same everywhere is misrepresenting at best. Know the system and recognize its operation. Participation is about the only universal

The fetishization of the vote in a managed democracy like the US is bad. If you want real change, yes; you should vote. But it’s nowhere near the top of the list of what you should be doing. (If you truly care)💫 Chomsky on the quadrennial extravaganza. 👇🏼
