I serve as vicar in an area where most churches are not only unaffirming but hostile. I have been called out by local clergy for supporting #LGBTQ dignity of being. Our Episcopal churches are the only two publicly affirming congregations. Washington National Cathedral needs to hear this.

Ashes to Go may offend the sensibilities of the old models for Church, but being present and encountering people where they are in the midst of where their lives are being lived is perhaps the best reflection of the spirit of Lent, to examine the life being lived where it is.

A couple came up saying they tried to go to different churches, but all were closed. They expressed both relief and joy that they could participate in Ash Wednesday safely outdoors. Those are the doors of the Church being flung wide open. #AshWednesday
