I don't know about Chou En-lai, but I'm not a Marxist. I think the whole concept that Marx tried to lay down as a scholar, a historian, a philosopher, has been distorted. People became priests of Marx. I am not. - Huey P. Newton, 1973

“The white liberal must see that the Negro needs not only love but also justice. It is not enough to say, “We love Negroes, we have many Negro friends.” They must demand justice for Negroes. Love that does not satisfy justice is no love at all.” Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

🧵Some more thoughts on the Christian and “social justice”: I think *part* of the evangelical aversion to social justice talk is that we tend to focus on individual concepts of sin/evil. We don’t have a category for social sin/injustice.

Important to see what is going on here: The DA isn’t defending the 6-year sentence as proportional to the crime. Instead, she argues that it’s your fault if you end up with a disproportionate sentence because you refuse to plead. That’s unjust — biblically unjust.

Two Kansas City police officers shot an unarmed 26-year-old pregnant Black woman Friday night. She exited a vehicle with her hands in the air and they shot her 5 times. But they can’t run into a school where kids are being massacred? 🤔 #LeonnaHale
