St Michael's church at the foot of Cader Idris has an amazing model of the Dysynni valley made by local people. It took them 2 years to make and they used Ordnance Survey mapping to guide them.

Looming over the southern Snowdonian coastline, Cader Idris (or Cadair Idris) is a mountain awash in legend. It derives its name, meaning ‘Chair of Idris‘, from Idris Gawr, the titanic warrior poet and astronomer, who crafted his vast rocky seat to gaze in wonder at the stars.

#MuseumsUnlocked Mountains, hills, uplands. The Talyllyn hoard & Cader Idris mountain. In 1963 picnickers discovered an incredible late Iron Age hoard of 2 shield fragments & decorative plaques beneath a propped boulder beside a mountain path. 1/3 coflein.gov.uk/en/site/419531…

#MuseumsUnlocked The location of the hoard implies the mountain path was in use in prehistory. It's destination? Llyn Cau lake nestled in a spectacular cauldron-like setting below the summit of Cader Idris. It is likely that the lake held special significance in the Iron Age 2/3

#MuseumsUnlocked The shield fragments & plaques with inverted human faces were buried in the face of rapidly approaching Roman campaigns in the Welsh mountains. They can now be seen on display in the 'Gweithdy' building in Sain Ffagan | St Fagans museum.wales/iron_age_teach…

Golden mouse ear (Pilosella aurantiaca; orange hawkweed). Record 'weeds' over a roost in the garden. This is not native to Wales, and is an invasive pain in some countries. Still worth seeing! (translation)
