Earlier this week, United Nations announced it must reduce its footprint in Gaza — due to the intolerable threat of Israeli strikes and aid blocks.   Aid workers should never be targets.   Returning to the ceasefire could release the hostages and stop this suffering.

The UK is outraged by the killings of aid workers in Gaza last week. I gave PRCS President Dr Al-Khatib my deepest condolences. The UK is pushing for Israel to investigate and for those responsible to be held to account. Aid workers save lives. They are not targets.

On Friday a Russian missile hit children playing in a park. It was the deadliest single strike on children since the war began. Putin said he wants “peace”. His actions reflect no such desire for peace. A ceasefire proposal is on the table. It’s time the Kremlin stops stalling.

Israel has blocked aid from entering Gaza for over two months. Gazans are at risk of starvation. International law requires Israel to allow aid to get to civilians. Gaza is no exception to this rule. All European members of the Security Council call on Israel to let aid in now.
