An argument that's used a lot in the assisted suicide debate: "but we don't let our pet's suffer?" No? We usually put pets down when it suits us - when caring for them becomes too inconvenient or expensive Which is exactly why me & many others oppose legalising this for humans

There is nothing safe about the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, but a fundamental misunderstanding of its impact on medicine. We have got to fix palliative care first and foremost, yet this Bill draws more resources away from providing care. I will vote against.

💙Rachael Maskell MP (@rachaelmaskell) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Please read. Gordon Brown makes such a compassionate case affirming the importance of palliative care. Rather than advancing a Bill on assisted dying, 70.2% of the public believe a Commission on Palliative and End of Life Care must come first. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Dying/ill/disabled people still need suicide prevention & support if we feel we want to die. Assisted suicide laws tends to circumvent that support, seeing our actions as inevitable. Thanks to whoever taped Samaritans posters over the assisted suicide ones on the underground.

The UK govt's white paper Get Britain Working is released today on the back of weeks (years) of increasingly hostile rhetoric about disabled people and benefit claimants. Here's a reminder of the sheer cruelty of the DWP that has harmed & taken the lives of far too many already

As I venture out for another step in my 5 year battle for effective pain treatment the TV bleats on about ending suffering with AD. Be lovely if the same focus & money was going into funding pain research. & #AssistUsToLive of course.

As a reminder, that does not mean the bill has become law, but it allows it to continue for further parliamentary scrutiny with the backing of the elected chamber. We will never give up fighting ✊

I wonder Channel 4 Dispatches ? Fancy making a documentary about how hard it is to get effective timely medical treatment when you are disabled or chronically ill? Or a doc on just how inaccessible society still is 30 years after the DDA? Not dog whistle enough?

Today is International Day of Disabled People 💜 But not enough people know, or care, about the fight for disability equality. We’re marking #IDPD2024 with an event at Parliament to help change this. campaigns.scope.org.uk/page/161686/ac…

Disabled people face a daunting amount of admin in everyday life, from navigating benefits applications to researching accessible transport options. Our colleague Miranda highlights the urgent need for greater accessibility to tackle disabling barriers. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

To reassure us that this truly is the safest possible assisted suicide law... A very pro MP personally selected a committee with a majority of other pro MPs (14-9) To analyse the Bill in more detail they chose to interview a majority (80%) of pro assisted suicide witnesses Wow

Liz "blue tick" Carr (@thelizcarr) 's Twitter Profile Photo

You know how those wanting the Assisted Suicide Bill passed come hell or high water? They promised the safest safeguards in the world, including approval by a High Court Judge? They've now decided to scrap this gold standard high court judge requirement What a surprise Ahem

The super-rich should be paying their way through a wealth tax, As little as 2% tax on wealth over £10 million would raise £24 billion every year. Money that will go to our NHS, social care services, our buses & our schools. My full response 👇 #York #WealthTax #SpringStatement

This is a very bad and dark day for disabled people. What will make end of life care better is to improve social care and palliative care. There will be no incentive to improve care and pain relief now. It’s so hard to hear people saying this is a great day, very disappointing.
