Apoorva Mandavilli The questions I always ask about BPI are: 1. If they emit ions that destroy pathogens in the air, how do they not attack human lung tissue? and 2. What assurances are there that chemical reactions do not create byproducts and/or particles? Never received a good answer to either.

Great story w/ some great insights and quotes by Shelly Miller, PhD, Jeffrey Siegel, Bill Bahnfleth, Brent Stephens. My sense is that the general public is definitely cluing in to the importance of the air they breathe indoors. Leveraging now & post-pandemic is important.

Read our new paper testing a popular ionizer product here. In collaboration w/ great partners Delphine Farmer Elliott Gall Mohammad Heidarinejad and our teams. TLDR: not much particle removal, removal of some VOCs (but generation of others), and no NOx/O3 emissions. Hope the data are useful...

Wondering what that "99% reduction in 1 h" air cleaner is actually doing in your space? We made the air cleaner efficacy investigation tool (ACE IT) to help evaluate often opaque performance data. tinyurl.com/air-cleaner-ef… w/ BERG@IIT Mohammad Heidarinejad Delphine Farmer Marwa Zaatari

We tested a version of a Corsi-Rosenthal box with MERV 13 filters: built-envi.com/wp-content/upl… CADR intuitively increased with particle size: 166 CFM for 0.09-1 µm 321 CFM for 0.5-3 µm 464 CFM for 5-11 µm More air cleaner testing here: built-envi.com/portfolio/air-… Jim Rosenthal Richard Corsi, PhD, PE (Texas)

Thanks to Parham Azimi for kicking off this big field project as a postdoc and to Insung Kang for finishing it up!

Solid advertisement for building science here! Good time to bring up the James Brown blower door video courtesy of Energy Vanguard youtu.be/Xsp3yCxoYOA
