On this date in 1987, this instant classic was released. Might have been best Valentines date you could ever take your significant other on.

If you could change something in your farming operation, what would you change first? Please comment on what specifically you would change (type of technology, equipment, etc)

According to a recent Iowa State study, crop residue holds 70# of Nitrogen, 20# of Phosphorus and 140# of Potassium. Have you made a plan on how to maximize your residue to help and not hinder your next crop? Comment below with your current plan.

This is a nice chart of the interactions of some of the soil variables that we should be looking at above and beyond the ones we traditionally have.

Saw one of these today as I was going down the road. When I was younger, I thought these were the coolest things out there. What tractor do you remember making you awestruck in your youth? Also, don’t judge on the memory….

Soil is alive. Yet most of our standard tests treat it like a static bunch of minerals. Every soil test is just a snapshot in time but the question is, what are you actually measuring in that snapshot? OM, pH, CEC, P, K, Mg, Ca, and Base Saturations. Is that enough? How much

My poll question from last week was about what you could change on your farm. Fertility was the winner. What would you change about fertility? Type? Amount? Placement? Program? Let’s hear it!

We see the same out west in the Western Plains States. One of the most intriguing and consistent ways to sample that I have seen.

It is going to take some “outside the box” thinking to be profitable. This is definitely one way to do it. A year like what we are going into, can push you to look at small changes on your operation that can have big impacts.
