One of the micro issues at play at times this season which was very evident in the 2nd half on Sunday is that we occasionally don’t know how we want to score. It’s like we don’t have a clear plan in mind. With that 5v2 breakaway, he should have used a practised drill.

The fact that Alonso has decided to stay at Leverkusen rather confirms why he’s an excellent candidate for Liverpool. He’s a man of principle who makes calm, rational decisions, unswayed by emotion.

United have a bit of a hex over us this season. A lot of our big players didn’t play well today. It was a must win. Arsenal look slight favourites now.

I think we’re all entitled to feel really disappointed about the result. No-one should be heavily criticising the players (who’ve been wonderful this season) mind. We shouldn’t feel compelled to be immediately optimistic and balanced about the title race as this one really hurts.

Hard to pinpoint why we were so abject tonight. Our Dublin dreams are dead. We only have the league to play for now. Can’t recall the last time we were humiliated at Anfield. Atalanta looked average to me - shows how pitiful we were. Crisis meeting and harsh words required now.

Feels pretty sore today after that drubbing last night. The absence of flags on the Kop was surely cruel coincidence. Trying to be positive, the defeat might inject some renewed purpose into our title charge. A shock to the system almost.

LFC’s transfer activity will be very interesting this summer. We certainly need a CB. If Trent goes into a double pivot, are we happy for Gomez to cover as 4th CB and 2nd RB? We could also do with a 6th attacker (unless one leaves). Can Bajcetic develop into a no.6 destroyer? 🤔

How will our forwards line up under Slot? There are so many options if he plays 4-2-3-1. It could all look very different. Might he play Salah as a 9? Could Dom play on the right side as a marauding forward? Where does Macca fit in (if he’s not in a double pivot)? Fascinating

An impressive first press conference for Arne Slot. No soundbites (or David Brent moments) - just calm, sensible and measured replies with a desire to improve the team. Richard Hughes expects this month to be generally quiet across the PL re: transfers with a crescendo in August

I can understand England’s tactics here: they can’t hope to dominate possession against the Spanish so they cede the ball, keep compact, frustrate them and play on the break. It all looks set for a smash and grab winner off the bench.

I have to say I feel totally relaxed about summer transfers for LFC. Our existing squad is perhaps deeper than it’s ever been with promising young players emerging and new signings bedded in after a campaign. We only need to refine: 2 signings and some squad trimming will do.

Decent point last night v Forest. Deserved to win. We need to appreciate the competitive nature of PL this season: the teams around us will continue to drop points. Our draws have to be seen in that context: keep putting points on the board.
