I wish I could say I was surprised.

Reminder that there is still no vaccine for kids under 5. While those of us who love and care for kids under 5 learn more about long COVID, COVID sequelae, and hepatitis in kids. Meanwhile the rest of society often bristles at any COVID protections, or even discussing them.

Doctors yelling to warn people the new variant is by far the worst they have seen and to protect yourselves. Politicians are telling you Covid is over and have a great summer. I think I’ll trust the medical professionals on this one.

Despite all the chaos and the turmoil of the world there are still moments like this. Moments where you get to experience a sunrise with your baby and you just know everything will eventually be ok.

So we’re living in a time when we’re seeing outbreaks in LTC, Emergency Departments shutting down, mass disability from #longCOVID, and likely, ANOTHER wave in the fall…and somehow, governments still can’t require the most simple thing to reduce COVID transmission...masking?

Canadian provinces: “give us more money for healthcare” Feds: “ok but since you misused or flat out lost billions in Covid relief, we’ll give it to you on the condition you can prove you’ll actually spend it on healthcare” Canadian provinces: “this is outrageous absolutely not”

When adult ICUs and EDs were at risk of being overwhelmed, we shut down the world to flatten the curve. When pediatric ICUs and EDs are overwhelmed, public life continues like nothing’s happening. I’d be heartbroken if I wasn’t so angry

Yesterday afternoon I packed myself and my 3 year old a “just in case” bag. I had no clue that would be used less than an hour later. We’re safe. We’re taken care of. But we don’t know what’s to come and that’s terrifying. #TantallonFire
