My department is doing a "privilege walk" as a DEI activity. It's embarrassing that folks still think this activity is a useful learning tool. Not only is this bad pedagogy, but it's also harmful to folks with marginalized identities and experiences. My oppression is not a game.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but we’re still in a pandemic. It’s ok if you’re not yet comfortable in crowds. It’s ok if you say no to things. It’s ok if you feel anxious. It’s ok if you need to rest. Your feelings are valid. And don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

Not to be a negative Nancy but I don't think undermining vaccination efforts in order to appease a handful of anti-vax parents in Estevan is the best idea for a province that proudly put 100% of it's eggs into the "the only way out of this is vaccines" basket.

I know we keep calling people outside of the NHCAP "regional employees." How about we just start calling them "employees" and starting thinking about truly decentralizing work to get a truly diverse workforce from across Canada. Geographic perspectives are key.

Medical staff:”How long have you been wheelchair bound?” Me:”No one is bound to a wheelchair.” Medical staff: “Sorry if I offended you. It’s a common term.” The fact that a term is common does not mean it is not offensive. Many “common” terms are slurs or ableist.

Disabled people are 25% of the population. Disability awareness is not enough. We need ableism awareness and commitment and action to fight it.

Hey hive mind: I'm moving to Vancouver and looking for audio-based ways to learn more about BC First Nations. Could be podcasts, engaging audiobooks, recordings etc. Traditional knowledge, culture, history, legal/rights, you name it. Thanks!

Propaganda is convincing a not insignificant amount of people that being double vaccinated against a virus, catching it anyway, and only experiencing minor symptoms (or none at all) is somehow a failure when it is LITERALLY the definition of success.

Having real conversations about workload and mental health is about more than telling a colleague to "contact their EAP". It's about listening, looking at what's working and taking action to improve our workplaces. Yes, your EAP is here to support you. But you can also: 1/2

I challenge folks in the GC to think critically before suggesting EAP as a default for mental health. EAP is meant for short term issues, not long term trauma work nor crisis situations. EAP without community care, meds, support network is not mental healthcare.

As a neurodivergent person with ADHD I consider myself to be disabled. This week I shared something about perceptions of neurodiversity only to be told I should reframe myself because It’s not a disability. I beg to differ. Everyday I work through challenges and barriers.
