After the Atlantic magazine and the New York Times spent the last 10 years lecturing us on how college kids, who hold almost no power, are a grave threat to freedom of speech. Of course it was always the very powerful administrators and donors who were the real threat.

So looks like calling in the NYPD to arrest over 100 students for peacefully protesting in solidarity with Palestinians in an attempt to silence them has backfired for @columbia. It’s night 3 and these students are making it clear they’re not going anywhere.

Yes it’s called the Friday prayer. I have led it countless times on this campus. There are these things enshrined in our Constitution called freedom of assembly and religion. I know you are tempted to attack them as they do in Occupied East Jerusalem, but this is New York City.

Free speech is gay students having to tolerate graduation speakers that have spent a career hating gay people and liberal kids needing to invite conservative kids to their parties, but free speech is most definitely not protesting – we have to draw the line somewhere!
