I just called Asm Phil Ting and you should, too. We cannot let Bay Area transit collapse, and time is running out to get emergency funding in the state budget.

Thank you to Mayor London Breed and Senator Senator Scott Wiener for their continuous advocacy for transit. The bridge funding for California public transit, including BART, will give us a lifeline to build ridership. Transit can be the engine to help revitalize Downtown San Francisco.

Heartened to see today’s statement from Assembly Budget Chair Phil Ting committing to CA budget transit funding solution: “Public transportation is crucial to a strong economy and for meeting our climate goals. I'll do everything possible to make sure we avoid the fiscal cliff.”

State leaders have failed to offer a concrete plan for transit funding. Bay Area agencies will be forced to reduce service levels. The result: mass congestion, a new barrier to economic recovery, and huge set back for climate goals. JOIN US SATURDAY TO DEMAND BETTER!

Tomorrow, San Francisco Recreation and Park Department Operations Committee will vote on making Shelley West Drive in McLaren Park permanently car-free. We've seen how incredible and impactful the JFK Promenade has been, and we're excited to see another people-first Promenade in the southeast of our city.

The Oakley Amtrak station was pitched as an infill station for a growing region, but now it's *replacing* Antioch's station, which is being closed due to "crime concerns." contracostaherald.com/oakley-transpo…

We want to thank the 35 state legislators -- many of whom represent the Bay Area -- who are asking the Governor and Legislature leadership to help provide bridge funding for California's public transit systems, including BART. Urgent leadership is needed before the fiscal cliff.

As a strong supporter of public transit, I’m proud to lead a group of CA Congressmembers writing to Gavin Newsom + Legislative Leaders supporting transit investments in the state budget. Good transit policy is good climate + housing policy. Read it here: bit.ly/TransitAid

This chart shows how the main transit agencies in the Bay Area were funded before the pandemic. Agencies that got most of their funding from fares like BART are struggling the most right now because ridership isn't fully back yet.

With all our challenges, SF & Bay Area can & will recover. But allowing public transit to crater is one of the most efficient ways to undermine that recovery. We must throw our transit systems a lifeline as their ridership gradually recovers. We’re working to make that happen.

One factor we forget in postwar suburbanization (and the new urban renaissance) is that US urban cores were basically in wildfire-like air every day in the summer My dad still talks about the yellow cloud over Buffalo back in the late 1970s LA wasn't clean til 2000

Since the governor's voicemail closed, let's send faxes to Gavin Newsom to urge full funding for public transit. Millions rely on transit for work, health, and social connections. A budget cut would be devastating. If you link me a letter by midnight, I can fax it for you!

BIG TRANSIT FUNDING UPDATE Last night, the Senate & Assembly released our budget, including most of the agreement on transit. We vote on Thursday. The agreement is a strong step to address the transit operations fiscal cliff. More work remains, but this is good progress.🧵⬇️
