Thank you all who joined the Book Club discussion today of The Tale of Aypi by Ak Welsapar. A cozy discussion of whether we should read โ€œimperfectโ€ novels or books we donโ€™t particularly like, and who sets the standard of literary โ€œqualityโ€, canon, and aesthetic

Book Club is approaching and this time itโ€™s a very long novel. Binge reading ๐Ÿ“– Please feel free to join even if you didnโ€™t get to finish it. Even if youโ€™ve only managed 20 pages, it does introduce to his style of writing. I do recommend reading the translatorโ€™s note at the end

Following on from our recent articles on Russian colonialism, we continue our examination of a subject we know little about at The Funambulist. This text by Svitlana Matviyenko, Sitora Rooz and E. Vincent proposes a method for reading Russian colonial and post-colonial domination
