This week we have been on a field familiarization visit with Dr. Maricianah Onono who recently joined the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative Board. We inspected various ongoing LeishAccess projects in Kacheliba, Sigor & Amudat with Simon Bolo & paid a courtesy call to members of the county health team. #beatNTDs

Recently, Simon Bolo met the VL teams at Moroto Regional Referral Hospital & St Kizito Matany Hospital, Catholic mission, Napak District in 🇺🇬 where a new treatment for visceral #leishmaniasis started. Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative continues to leverage on partnerships to deliver treatments for #NTDs.

#ClimateChange is already having an impact on diseases such as #dengue and #leishmaniasis. This #WorldEnvironmentDay, we urgently need investment in R&D for affordable vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments for climate-sensitive diseases that are simple, safe, and effective. 💪

In 2022, Eastern Africa accounted for 73% of global visceral #leishmaniasis cases, half of which occurred in children under 15. The new World Health Organization (WHO) framework offers a comprehensive approach for countries to implement strategies, assess progress & build capacity. bit.ly/3xfpkM9

Attending the International Conference on NTD Research in Africa (InCORNTD) at Kigali Convention Center, that brings together over 500 key NTD stakeholders to address how to use basic and operational research to eliminate NTDs in the region.
