Filmmaking was at one point the young man's game. Even studio heads would retire and let the younger people take their positions. This was to keep the medium in an innovative position while also catering to younger audiences through similar life experience and beliefs.

I'd say it's a curse. At least millennials got a third of their lives in normalcy. We only got a faint memory of it. Though one could say that this is a blessing in disguise. I don't have to live knowing JUST how good it was through nostalgia.
