Joining a book club has been this delightful discovery that people still read books the way they might also watch TV, for fun and fodder, and not the way I learned to Read Great Books, for Thought and Wisdom and Timeless Cultural Capital

All books should be published with discussion questions at the end. Encourage and facilitate journaling or audio recording or conversation about what is read. I get that reading is a pleasure all its own, but can’t we also hope to and nudge more change and learning?
Thought while babysitting the other day:

Well there’s evidence of lapse in prayer life in her panic having lost track of the young Jesus on the way back from Jerusalem. Finding him in the temple, too, was a reminder to pray and be more present with Him as both God and Son.
Humbled by conversations when I notice I’m over eager to interrupt with information and correction or increased density and nuance in ideas being articulated because this means I am more enamored by concepts shared than the holiness of the individual doing the sharing.
A note on listening skills: By one 2011 study’s measure … 45% of a students day is spent listening, 85% of knowledge is expected to be acquired listening, but, only 2% of population ever received formal listening instructions. Talk about taking a skill for granted.
Gold, silver and bronze medals for men’s triple jump all seem to be from different European nations but all three athletes are Cuban. This made my Cuban mother cry.
