Check out our Timelapse of turf and topsoil stripping inside the Abbey Church at Tintern Abbey. Can you spot the abbey chickens…?! They were very interested in the process! 😀🐓⁦Cadw⁩ ⁦Ross Cook⁩ #medieval #archaeology

We’ve found lots of coins during our investigations at Tintern Abbey, most from the C18th and C19th but at least one medieval, including Henry III (1216-72) to George III (1760-1820), through to the Victorian and Edwardian Periods. Cadw Ross Cook #medieval #archaeology

Lots of research goes into our investigations at Tintern Abbey. Here are some lovely early images of the Abbey Church. They tell a long conservation story! Cadw Ross Cook #medieval #Archaeology

Was it only three years ago that we were carrying out a photogrammetric survey of the Outer Curtain Wall, Dovecote and South Towers at the stunning #UskCastle?! Still one of our favourite castles! How time flies Ross Cook! #medieval #castles #gwent

This beautiful tile was discovered during archaeological investigations at Tintern Abbey, part of a wider conservation project on the great gothic church. Black Mountains Archaeology are busy investigating what secrets lie beneath the top layer of soil. ow.ly/9g9E50OX98z

Our latest discovery from #Tintern Abbey, a tile of Richard, Earl of Cornwall, King of the Romans (b.1209-d.1272). Henry III, Richard’s brother, gave him Cornwall in 1225 as a 16th birthday present, and was elected King of Germany in 1257. Black Mountains Arch Cadw Cadw

Here’s a 3D model of a grave marker in the presbytery at Tintern Abbey. In the late 1920s a burial was found wrapped in a cow hide shroud. It is poss that this burial is under the grave marker. Thanks to David Robinson and his on going research @cadwcymruwales Ross Cook

Big thanks to Black Mountains Arch for the guided tour around the engine house compound. Truly amazing discoveries on the site: images show furnaces, flues leading to the chimney & rail track route. We had no idea quite how many remains we have been walking over these past few years!
