The BAFTAs discourse is showing me that a lot of people don’t see slurs as a form of abuse. If you have a disorder or condition that causes you to harm others, you shouldn’t be in certain spaces. And it’s not ableist to say that. It’s about protecting everyone

The same people that won’t advocate for accessible bathrooms, walkways, websites, TV shows, and lived realities. All of it is reactive, selective, and anti-Black.

Is it a disability, yes. Did it perpetuate racialised harm onto Delroy and Michael, also yes. Can we recognise Tourettes are involuntary, still yes. Can we also recognise how truly violent it is to be in receipt of racial abuse even in diminished capacity, very much still a yes.

Racism is not nuanced… if saying someone with a disability shouldn’t be shouting racial slurs (on national television) is ableist then I fear we’ve lost the plot because y’all sound ridiculous as fuck. An apology is the LEAST he could do, disability or not.
