The challenge to reach the World Series of American Legion Baseball is (1) you must win your state championship; (2) you bust win your national region (8 regions each with 8 teams) - only those 8 teams play in the world series - no automatic slots.

The state tournament varies based on the individual state - some (like Illinois, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Minnesota) have a LOT to teams - some (like Kentucky) have just a few. Michigan and Ohio have a region/zone round to determine the state qualifiers.

Getting to a World Series is an accomplishment but there are a lot of "world series" and "world championships" that are essentially just another tournament.
