This week is Rail Safety Week, or Operation Lifesaver See Tracks, Think Train Week. Each day has a rail safety theme - remember to always be mindful when you're near tracks!

Today is Crossing Safety Day! Remember that trains aren't the only equipment you might encounter on the tracks - maintenance equipment can be as large as a train and take as much time to stop. Be sure to Stop, Look, and Listen any time you approach a railroad crossing.

Update from the Statehouse: BLET supported SB233 was amended into Sub. SB 37 yesterday and passed the House. This critical piece of legislation will improve safety at road crossings in Ohio and has wide, bipartisan support.

Update from the Statehouse: HB381 was amended into Sub. SB 290 yesterday. This piece of legislation would recognize and remember Brother Lou Shuster, who tragically list his life at work last March, by naming the interchange at Rockport Yard after him.

Earlier today, the US Senate passed the Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act by a vote of 85-14. The authorization bill for national defense includes an amendment for the REEF Act, which will fully restore unemployment and sickness benefits to all railroad workers.

A Teamsters Rail priority safety bill heads to the Governor's desk - thank you to Michele Grim Bill DeMora Stephanie Kunze and Rep. Jim Hoops for carrying this bill and to Nathan Manning for his hard work in Senate Judiciary. Onward!
