"some drivers are still working. they're having to choose between their health -- or paying for rent, bills, trying to put food on the table. this is a moral shame," Uber driver on press conf. held by Rideshare Drivers United TWU re: drivers being denied unemployment

Exactly. California taxpayers can't be expected to foot the bill for the lawlessness of Uber Lyft. These multi-billion dollar corporations need to pay their fair share like all other law-abiding companies do. Like, now.

Fantastic, hopeful news, made possible by awe inspiring organizing. The gross economic inequality which is the story of our era is the real platform of the giglords. Misclassification kills. Starvation wages, life-long debt. CA is saving workers' lives. Kudos Rideshare Drivers United

Pretty damn hard to feel safe when your company gives you no paid sick leave, pays you less than minimum wage & demands you buy your own PPE #NoOnProp22 #SickofGigGreed

Our No on #Prop22 campaign is up against over $200 million of corporate spending. But the grassroots organizing from Mobile alliance Gig Workers Rising Rideshare Drivers United @wedriveprogress has been absolutely extraordinary. It's an honor to fight alongside these drivers #NoOnProp22

It's most important that the independent, membership-based driver groups who have been fighting through blood, sweat, and tears for their rights--Rideshare Rideshare Drivers United and NY Taxi Workers--oppose the proposed NY state gig company compromise.

New: Instacart gig workers are organizing a nationwide strike beginning Oct 16 (an escalation of their #DeleteInstacart customer boycott). They're demanding the company agrees to a series of changes that would result in higher pay vice.com/en/article/v7e…

SCOOP: We obtained internal documents from Amazon showing in detail how it tracks every single minute of workers' shifts, using its "time off task" tool. The docs show—down to the minute— how much time workers spent in bathroom, talking to coworkers, etc vice.com/en/article/5dg…

JUST RELEASED: New research shows that #Prop22 undermines the pay, benefits, and autonomy of rideshare drivers in California. Explore the findings: plcylk.org/prop22study. #EndProp22

It also occurs to me - these companies have always called us drivers “partners.” It was a way to exploit us, to deny us basic labor rights. The strategy is all in #uberfiles. It’s a bit stunning to hear that Uber is now calling the Belgian union a “perfect partner.”

Lyft trying to create a groundswell of driver support for a law that allows them to pay us as low as 50 cents a mile for a ride. Nope. We’ll be there & picketing & making our voices heard. It’s a profession - driving - not charity work. drivers-united.org/fair-pay-fair-… Rideshare Drivers United x.com/veenadubal/sta…
