A beach walk a couple of days ago resulted in having a few pecks to the head from the Arctic Terns and a rather hungry Bonxie. The amount of effort pulling the dead Common Seal put it on its bum a few times when the meat gave way!

After all this hot weather it was a good time to check on the local Common Blue damsels, 30+ at one site! Arctic Skuas successfully breeding are a bit of a rare sight, so a pair showing a close interest to me and doing distraction display had to mean a chick!Taken under licence

Good to see Vodafone UK doing a great job of providing no mobile signal to the whole northern half of Shetland for 5 days now! EE working fine though, I wonder what’s going to happen!

This week included an adult Baird’s Sand on Unst and 2 Atlantic white sided Dolphins close to home on Yell. Unfortunately the dolphins were found dead the next morning. Both were males and were removed and sent south for a full autopsy.

This is a genuine question, I’m not dissing anybody’s sightings. But are Yelkouan Shearwaters actually identifiable in a British context? Considering the Menorcan situation. Scilly Pelagics

A couple of the same Arctic Skua giving me a very close look on the breeding grounds on Yell. This bird shows just one tiny area of leucism on the right carpal. This is a common thing with AS to a varying degree but mainly centred on the carpal joints often symmetrically.

Went to pick a car up the other day and the Speedo read, see 1st photo. Then when I took it back it read, 2nd photo. Now if you have a childish mind like mine you will find it funny, if not never mind! 😂

Quick dash across to Unst this evening to see a Stone Curlew found by Mike Pennington . Great photos were not achieved! 😂 The Black tailed Godwit showed slightly better.

An estimated 11-12.5 million cats in the UK. If each 1 takes just 6 wild birds pa, that's circa 70 million wild birds killed. This shows the issue when 1 finds a #Nightjar nest on a site I monitor in #Norfolk Nothing to add 🤬🤬@_bto BBC Springwatch RSPB BBC East

A few good local birds turned up on Yell in the last few days. A very juvenile Stonechat, 2 Greenshank and today I found this 2cy Little Gull well into its moult to 2nd winter plumage.

Living in Shetland and having deep peat dug up for wind farms , which by the way are switched off most of the time because wind is to strong, it is quite obvious this is a con. They get paid when the turbines are switched off, so what would you do if your paid not to work!

Tracy went to Aberdeen a couple days ago. Came back with 2 more rescue parrots. Including this handsome guy. Been in a cage all his life hopefully now he will experience a bit of freedom around the house.

A few pics from the last couple of days. Bottlenose Dolphin 1 of 2 in Yell yesterday, still a rare sight on Shetland, this being only the 3rd record. Rosefinch on Yell and a very showy CurlewSand on Unst today.

This is mental. Natural England proudly describes Lindisfarne as one of England’s most important National Nature Reserves, home to half the world’s population of Pale-bellied Brent Geese, yet at the same time it allows BASC to raffle off the chance to blast kill these birds.
