A fabulous day at Essex Wildlife Trust Fingringhoe Wick reserve today. Lots of wildlife to see including Small Copper butterfly, Cowslip, Adder & Green-winged Orchid plus birds; Nightingale, Lesser Redpoll, Whimbrel, Red Kite, Sand Martin, Swallow... Good to see Swallow Birding & Wildlife too.

The new wet grasslands at Blue House Farm are looking just amazing at the moment. Territorial lapwing, redshank and avocets everywhere - highly recommended.

First Lesser Whitethroat of the year for me yesterday, a Whimbrel with a flock of 75 Curlew and then watched a Harbour Porpoise in the river Colne chasing fish off Stone Point East Mersea, quite a rare occurrence these days.

Excellent Abberton morning: 62 species. Greeted by Nightingales; LRPx3, Yellow Wags, Arctic Tern among Commons, Sand & House M, Swallows, couple of Cuckoo, several Lesser Whitethroat, many Blackcap, Red Kite driving off Buzzard, Heron trying to grab ducklings EBwS Bird News

Green-winged Orchids are already in flower at Fingringhoe Wick this afternoon. Lots of Nightingale and Warblers singing and also a very vocal but elusive Firecrest (thanks OliCWildlife).

A very breezy, cold butterfly transect at Abberton today, just 2 Peacock & 2 GV White seen. There were a few birds though, nice drake Garganey, a very close Arctic Tern with 16 Commons off LB causeway, 3 Wheatear, Greenshank, Spoonbill, 2 LR Plover, 3 Marsh Harrier & 4 Swift.

Very much enjoyed spending the day wandering around one of my favourite places, Essex Wildlife Trust Fingringhoe Wick. Here’s one of the 17 vocal Nightingales! Also singing Firecrest, loads of warblers & reptiles, plus good to catch up with jonnywhu 💙. #birding EBwS Bird News
